Femdom porn: Sexist or feminist?

Going topless: Depends! Are you getting topless because you feel like it? Is someone else getting topless because they feel like it? That would be feminist. Is the person getting topless to sell a product? Is the person being pressured into getting topless to make a point or sell a product? That would be objectification.

The hajib: Depends! (You’re going to see that word a lot in my response) Is this person wearing the hijab for religious expression and freedom? That would be feminist. Is this person being told that if they don’t wear it, they’ll be harmed, condemned or shunned? Are they being forced to wear it? That would be sexist. However, the hajib and head scarves, for any religion, are not sexist in themselves.

Protesting for equal pay: This one is super easy. Equal = Fair and Fair = Good. Equal pay isn’t favoring any one sex or gender because it’s just that! Equal! And correct! Protesting for equal pay makes you an awesome person in my book, and a feminist.

Promiscuity: Feminist! This person likes having sex with lots of people and that’s super-okay and awesome. Not having sex is super-okay and awesome too. You shouldn’t shame anyone, no matter how much crazy, monkey sex they have. Sexual satisfaction and expression is NOT bad. Slut-shaming is bad. That’s the patriarchy’s way of raining on the clitoral parade and its not invited to bed!

Women and children first: Hey, I’ll get out of danger first but don’t belittle my gender or age in the process! This is sexist. It’s a nice favor, but it’s the same as saying, “Hey, you go first since you’re weaker and less likely to survive if you have to swim. I guess I’ll sacrifice myself for your lesser gender.” Totally not cool. It’s a gesture, but only because I’m viewed as weaker. I’m a fucking Girl Scout and a human being. I can row a boat and tie a knot and put out a fire just as well as you can, buddy.

Birth control: Feminist! If a woman doesn’t have the desire to have children now, or ever, she shouldn’t have to. Birth control can balance hormones, prevent and help cure ovarian cysts and prevent unwanted pregnancies. It’s great for good moods and getting through college and onto your desired career. How feminist is that!?

Soccer moms: It’s a stereotype and that means it CAN be sexist. Yes, mothers that have kids involved in the sport of soccer exist, and I’m sure some of them are divorcees who enjoy cocktail parties and the pool boy…(who happens to be named Rosario) - BUT - it’s a stereotype all the same.

Femdom porn: This is a tricky one! Femdom porn can be great, so long as the women involved are content with what they’re doing/performing and are portrayed in a non-objectifying way.  The femdom fetish, BDSM or even a spanking-kink are fine if both parties involved are consensual. However, porn is a controversial topic in the feminist world, but I believe porn CAN be feminist. It’s just very, very, very rare you see it in this light. I think that femdom porn CAN be sexist or feminist. There’s a lot of deciding factors. It’s up to the individuals who are in the porn and watching it to decide if it feels right.
